PRESCHOOL (3): Miss Lokensgard

Happy New Year! We are starting the new year under the sea. This week we are learning all about the ocean and comparing land animals with water animals. The science table has an aquarium to explore, and the sensory table has kinetic sand to build sandcastles. The playdough center we have fish and seaweed. At the writing center during play time there are simple dot-to-dot sheets and ocean, and beach cut and paste sheets. The dramatic play area is also set up with beach items; life jackets, floaties, towels, sunglasses, and fishing poles. The activity center is set up with letter matching fish, number fishing, counting the goldfish, and sorting the land and water animals.

Monday- At the writing center we drew bubbles, seaweed and rocks under the ocean. For our large motor activity, we played musical chairs with the older preschoolers.

Tuesday- We had our phonics lesson and for our STEM activity we put ocean animals in gelatin.

Wednesday- At the writing center we glued on goldfish to make the letter Pp. We also made rainbow fish with bubble wrap and paint.

Thursday- We will be working on our name portrait for the month of January. We will also have Show-N-Share on Thursday.

Friday- “How many snowflakes tall am I” and will be working on 10 frames. Bible activity for the week Nativity Stickers.

Bible lesson this week is the Wise Men. Memory treasure- They bowed down and worshiped him. Matthew 2:11.

PRESCHOOL (4): Mrs. Dragt

Happy New Year! I can’t believe it’s already January!

Our focus wall this week is the letter Xx, number 15, our shape is oval, and our color is white.

In Movement we played musical chairs with Ms. Lokensgard’s class. It was a new experience for some of them, but they did great! We also are going to build coral reefs for oceans week out of playdoh, pipe cleaners, colorful straws, tissue paper, and beads.

In Science we learned the difference between saltwater and freshwater. Show and share this week is to bring something that is green.

Our bible lesson is Jesus Goes to Church. Mary, Joseph, and Jesus go to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover. When they head back home to Bethlehem Jesus is left behind in the temple. Mary and Joseph head back to Jerusalem and find Jesus in the temple listening to God’s Word.

Memory Treasure: Lord, I love your house. Psalm 26:8

K-1st: Mrs. Eckstrand

This week our Jesus lessons are Epiphany: When the wise men followed the star to find Jesus. They gave him gifts of gold, incense, and myrrh. We then followed Joseph, Mary, and Jesus as they ran away to Egypt to save Jesus from King Herod. Once King Herod had died, they moved one last time back to Nazareth. Psalm 91:11 Yes, He will give a command to his angels concerning you, to guard you in all your ways is our memory treasure.

1st grade has begun learning how to use their assignment notebooks! They will be filling them out every day now and eventually be crossing things off as they finish. They won't be coming home yet, but you can ask your 1st grader to bring it home if you'd like to see them.

In Reading, 1st grade met Lily's little sister and are focusing on -er and -ed endings. Kindergarten met Lily. She loves her lively little lions and the /l/ sound.

In Math, 1st grade continues to learn a few more addition and subtraction strategies. They are breaking numbers apart and making 10. Kindergarten in comparing all the ways to measure. We've got height, length, weight, and capacity in the chapter.

In Writing, 1st grade is starting a narrative story. Kindergarten will finish their letters and begin practice with single sentences.

In Social Studies we read a story about running errands to get goods and needed to use a plumbing service.

In Art we will be discussing cool colors and warm colors.

DONKAY, the hamster has arrived in our room! He is still adjusting to all the excitement, but so far seems to enjoy his new digs. The kids have really enjoyed reading to him so far.

2-4th: Mr. Loersch

Hello Parents and Students!

In God's Word this week we're studying the transfiguration of Jesus and Jesus walking on water. Both of these stories highlight how Jesus is simultaneously true God and true man.

A new semester means a new subject! Social Studies takes the place of Science this semester. In Social Studies, we're learning about why laws are necessary and why we use elections to choose the people who make those laws.

2nd grade Math continues their measurement unit with feet and yards. 3rd grade Math is reviewing and taking a test on chapter 3. 4th graders are learning about multiplying two two-digit numbers together.

In Language Arts, 2nd graders are learning about the long and short "o" sounds, as well as the proper punctuation for quotations. 3-4th graders are in their poetry unit, where they're writing various styles of poems.
